Olinda is one of the highest of the villages which pepper the Dandenong Ranges. Its climate is refreshingly cool in summer and there may even be a light snowfall or two in winter.
Olinda is home to the National Rhododendron Gardens and features many exquisite gardens, both public and private, including Cloudehill and William Ricketts Sanctuary, which incorporates many of the renowned sculptor’s works.
Many artists call the area home, and there are many galleries showcasing the works of local artists and artisans.
The Dandenong Ranges National Park has graded bushwalks – if you're lucky, you may see native animals and birds, even the elusive lyrebird.
It's a tradition that visitors to the Dandenongs indulge in a Devonshire tea and there are several delightful cafes in Olinda where you choose this or other delicacies. In the area, look out for roadside stalls selling fresh local produce.
